Singapore, May 13, 2024 – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong will be formally appointed as Singapore's new Prime Minister on May 13, 2024. The announcement was made by the Prime Minister's Office following a meeting of the Cabinet.

Mr. Wong, 49, has served as Deputy Prime Minister since 2022. He is also the Chairman of the Monetary Authority of Singapore. As Prime Minister, he will lead the country in addressing challenges and pursuing opportunities in the years to come.

Mr. Wong holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Cambridge and a Master of Public Administration from Harvard University. He began his career as a civil servant in the Ministry of Finance before entering politics in 2011. He has held ministerial positions in the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Culture, Community, and Youth.

In his role as Deputy Prime Minister, Mr. Wong has overseen the country's economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. He has also implemented a number of reforms to the healthcare system and the education system.

Mr. Wong's appointment as Prime Minister will be a significant change for Singapore. He will be the country's fourth Prime Minister since independence in 1965.
